The “description” of Christianity that you show here is inaccurate. True Christianity is the belief in the teachings of Christ, who’s greatest teaching was “love one another” Whether or not you have issue with so called Christians who antagonize us with their guilt ridden forceful judgments an criticisms does not change this. Another teaching was “judge not”. How can we judge others when we ourselves are so very far from perfect. Personally, I have no problem with Christians who want to preach to me. Being a true Christian means being able to accept all people for who they are… loving them and not judging them and hopefully, by example, show them what perhaps may be a better way in which to live. Usually the most annoying “Christians” will try to convince you of the very things that they are trying to convince themselves. They haven’t yet fully understood Christ or his teachings and feel they need to hear the sound of their own voice to make it all sink in. Unfortunately the point is often missed. Most of the dogma handed down over the centuries has lost its meaning, and trying to make sense of old dogma is a useless exercise. Well I hope this at least encourages an intelligent discussion on the matter.

I agree that this is the teachings of Jesus Christ, however, I disagree with your assessment that it is the definition of Christianity. The bible is the guidebook for christianity and the statements in the image above are accurate as far as what is written in the bible. Regardless of whatever philosophical path or moral guideline should be taken from said religion, the fact is, the bible is a book of over the top fantasy. I can take the sentiment as a beautiful thing as well as acknowledge that a huge percentage of the planet is following a misguided book full of fantasy and propaganda and has used those words as an excuse for the majority of the most heinous injustices in our history.

So if you believe the Bible is full of fantasy and propaganda, then why create more fantasy and propaganda? Sure preaching against a religion is a belief, and you have that right to it, but wouldn’t it be more productive to seek what it is that you really do believe in then to put down other peoples beliefs. Especially since you don’t particularly have a snowballs chance in hell of convincing any of them over to your side. They are just going to see you as a fanatic. What you say is in the Bible is only what you have heard was in the Bible, probably from ignorant bible thumpers. Have you read it yourself? It is mostly an ancient history book. Accounts of events as witnessed from human beings. These would be human beings who have not been educated with today’s scientific knowledge, and so therefore must be given some leeway. Some of the stories may seem fantastic, but having not been there yourself, and having a limited knowledge of reality, how can you say what is or is not possible. If you truly had such an unlimited knowledge of reality as to be able to make such judgments, then we can end this right now, and I will come and worship you. (well I nearly do that already, but that’s another story.) Science is still struggling with “What is matter?, What is gravity?” and they say it is all just energy in various forms. Well what is energy? And why are we here anyway? Religion answers some of these questions for many people. Especially people who understand that we are only partially mental thinking beings, but more importantly we are feeling beings with hearts and souls. For people who need religion, it is a good thing that it is there for them. I see no value in discouraging people from following a path that may lead to their self betterment and fulfillment. This country was founded on the principle of freedom of religion, freedom to believe in whatever you wish. I believe all the major religions are based on fundamental moral truths that if followed would no doubt make this world a better place. I don’t see how disrespecting people’s beliefs can make the world a better place. Sorry for being harsh. I know there is a lot of anger out there about things that were done in the name of God, or Christ, or Mohammad. These horrible things were done by ignorant people, and you can and will find ignorant people in all walks of life… they’re everywhere! The question becomes “How do you get to these people, and enlighten their minds and hearts?” Well you’re not going to get to them by putting down there religion – the religion of their forefathers and of generations. No. But you can get to them by pointing out the truths in their religion. And to do that, you need to discover the truth yourself.

Well, while I do agree that disrespecting someone else’s belief is not necessarily a good thing, I do feel that there are exceptions. Racism, fascism, etc. To me most organized religion is on the same level as fascism. Not all, mind you, but most. I have in fact read a great deal of the bible in my attempts to research and be able to stand behind my own opinions. What’s written there is a humorous, but very accurate abridged version of what I have read. Also, stating that the entire bible is a historical perspective is not entirely correct. The old testament is as you had written, an attempt to explain what people did not understand. The new testament, however, was a bunch of propaganda told to the Romans by followers of Jesus with the intention of converting them. The stories were tainted with politics. Furthermore, regardless of what intentions the original authors had in mind, the thing is thousands of years old, filled with completely awful ideology, such as adulterers should be stoned to death and tattoos are a sin punishable by death. It has been more of a source of misery than a source of positivity throughout history and it’s foolish for people to take it more seriously than any other old literary work. I feel completely justified in making fun of and belittling Christianity and it’s source as long as it’s being used as a principle in such complete moral injustices as banning gay marriage and trying to force creationism (whatever that means) into schools, etc. Christmas is not the day Jesus was born, Easter is not the day of his resurrection (and even if it was, how and why would we celebrate a zombie idol with eggs and bunnies?), they are hijacked holidays from other religions. How can I take a religion seriously if they don’t and would rather lie to their followers in order to increase their scope of influence than be true to their supposed teachings (which are based on a very guilt ridden dualistic philosophy with extremist beliefs of good and evil that I don’t believe in at all). I could care less how those people see me and I feel as though I’m fighting for what I consider to be correct and morally right. I don’t live in the woods and I have to deal with the closed minded disrespectful behaviors of people who use an ancient book as a moral crutch. You are correct, figure it out for yourself. Don’t be a sheep to an institution that is responsible for so much evil and lies in the world. The book lost any positive meaning it may have had the second the Catholic church covered up their priest pedophile nonsense (actually way before that, maybe when they wiped out entire civilizations in the name of Jesus). Jesus may have been an amazing human being, but the bible and Christianity are an evil institution.

So, I ask you to point out one portion of what’s written in that completely hilarious parody of Christianity that is inaccurate. Also, please understand that I believe that all organized religion is bad. Spirituality is essential, but people shouldn’t feel the need to blindly accept something. Especially when it has been proven as false on thousands of levels. Make up your own mind, or accept that you wont ever completely understand what it’s all about. But don’t ever think that some guy has the answers. No matter how beautiful or good it may sound. Anyone who says they have the answers is an egomaniacal narcissistic liar.

Just stumbled across this. It’s interesting because, as a Christian, I share a lot of your sentiments on Christmas, Easter and the horrible things that have been done in Christ’s name, because they took the Bible and his teachings, interpreted them in a way that best benefitted them and exploited their doings. The Bible does not teach people to hate. It lays out guidelines, it does what Russ said it does. Teaches people kindness, patience and many other positive ways of being. It’s the people that have screwed things up.

I am a Christian. I don’t celebrate Easter, Christmas, Halloween or many other pagan holidays. If you study the Bible you can see that the Old Testament was very violent. There were a lot of wars, a lot of actual killing. The whole point in Christ’s messages was to end the physical killing, harming and destruction of one another. That’s what the new testament was all about. It seems that you see the New Testament as propaganda because that’s how it’s been portrayed. I have to be honest in saying that that isn’t what it means to be a true believer in Christ’s teachings. It wasn’t ever about creating propaganda and converting as many “souls” as possible. Most Christians are missing the point.

Anywho, I actually found out about this blog because I heard that you got beat up on your home just last night. I wish the best recovery and hope that the damage was not too overwhelming. No one should have to go through that.

Thank you Trevor for your concern and well wishes, I am fine. Also, I completely appreciate and respect your view of Christianity and would love it if all Christians shared the same, or a similar ideology or dogma as you. Regrettably they don’t, because as you stated yourself, It’s the people that have screwed things up.

With that being said, please continue to believe and worship as you see fit and feel is right. I myself have decided that I prefer to accept not knowing and accept whatever fait has in store, if there is such a thing, knowing that I lived a good and honorable life. cheers.
